In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by going through several old tapes and demos to release a special edition called Toto XX. The album was a hit by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as drummer during the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set called Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the band.
